Event

For the event, I think the kahoot is a good idea, but I’m having a hard time figuring out other games that we could play. One game that I think could be a hit or miss depending on the people’s preference is Charades. Instead of acting out literary words, we could replace it with religion and superheroes and have the guests guess the answers.  Another game we could do is twenty questions in relations to our theme. It’s been a while since I play this game, but each person must guess the correct answer until twenty (the minimum), and if the player guesses correct then it becomes their turn to be “it.” I’m not sure if this will work, but I remember a game called “guess the villain” or whatever theme a person chooses, and when the people arrive we attached an index card or paper to their backs and we would ask them questions and the guests can interact with others to try and figure out the answer.
For the storytelling, I really wish we could have a bonfire outside, but since that is out of the question I think we could maybe tell our own version of scary story that we have heard throughout our lives or stories that we believe in. The title of our event is “The wonders of the Super” so I think we could maybe tell stories about superstitious things we have seen or believe. For example, I was always told that if a person dies, their soul/spirit will remain alive, and my story would be that 3 weeks after a death in my family, I could have sworn that I saw a rocking chair moving everything I walked by where that person used to be sitting. I think our own personal stories or stories that we have heard from the past could be interesting and the people can share some of their own mysterious stories as well too.
For the posters, I’m not very artistic when it comes to drawing or anything art, so I look up this one website that creates a design for the posters. I’m not sure if these images are allowed or not, but I came up with a few ideas.  I’m not sure what we want to put on the posters, but I think something to capture the attention of the people like a question or statement. For example, this is what I came up with:
 “The Wonders of the Super”

Have you ever wondered how superheroes, supernatural fit into the Religion spectrum? Take a break and come enjoy a night full of activities and free food!!!

These are a few examples of the flyers that I came up with.

The Uncanny has a lot of things in there that may have you question many things you see on the tv, movies and even may be talked about in comic books, it leaves you thinking whether things in the real world could possibly happen."To many people, the acme of the uncanny is represented by anything to do with death, dead bodies, revenants, spirits and ghost."(148). The Uncanny reminds me so much of the Walking dead or world war Z where many of them were walking dead and some were reborn dead again. Many things like this have been in question, is this going to be an afterlife for many of us or something that may happen when the world is near the ending. I would also connect the Uncanny to the Wizard of the Waverly Place, an old Disney tv show that had to deal with wizards they had powers and were connected to certain spirits while living a regular life as human being that owns a subway shop.

The Uncanny - Doubles/US MOVIE

"The uncanny is the psychological experience of something as strangely familiar, rather than simply mysterious. It may describe incidents where a familiar thing or event is encountered in an unsettling, eerie, or taboo context."

In the essay Das Unheimliche aka: "The Uncanny," Austrian neurologist and the founder of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud, presents the idea that The Uncanny is "something that belongs to all that is terrible – to all that arouses dread and creeping horror…"
In other words, the Uncanny is that weird feeling you get when you see something that obviously creeps you out but you do not quite know why. Often times the thing that provides that feeling is quite familiar to you, but just a little bit unfamiliar and sinister at the same time.

One thing that Freud focuses on quite a bit in his essay is the idea that a "double," or another you would essentially provide the most uncanny feeling for a person. Although seeing somebody as familiar looking as yourself shouldn't necessarily be that daunting and strange, it most definitely would be. Have you ever heard the term "uncanny resemblance?" Well, this is technically where that term came from.
This phenomenon is so eerie to see that it has actually become a very popular plotline for creepy horror films/other works of media in the past few decades, in the TV show The Twilight Zone, the Jake Gyllenhaal movie Enemy, and most recently, the box office hit film by Jordan Peele US.
This film about a family whose exact doppelgangers show up in their lives to pretty much kill them and take their places grossed $174,144,080 on its opening week alone, is the number 3 highest grossing film of 2019 thus far, and broke the film Ted's record ($54.4 million) for the highest opening for an original R-rated film and A Quiet Place's record ($50.2 million) for the highest opening for an original horror film, meaning the theme of it can obviously be pretty entertaining for people to watch.

During one of the first scenes that the doubles (known in the film as the tethered) are revealed, the main characters give off an intense air of uneasiness about the fact that the people in their living room look almost exactly like them, aside from certain aesthetic details that come with life experiences. There is no doubt the characters are feeling a strong sense of what Freud would consider "The Uncanny." This body double related theme is scary enough as is, but director Jordan Peele had to go the extra mile and make it so the "tethered" were not only scary in appearances and the fact that they could not speak (aside from the mother character,) but out for blood as well... the blood of their doppelgangers to make it worse.
The idea that there could be somebody out there who not only looks exactly like you but could try to kill you and take over your life is clearly something that people find disturbing, and something that provides quite the "uncanny" feeling. I believe that something that makes a psychological thriller so exciting is that feeling of uneasiness you get while watching them. Things in media arts that are disturbing and give people that weird uncanny feeling often appeal to the masses, which is why films like Enemy (as mentioned before) and US do so well as horror/psychological thrillers.

the Uncanny

The first thing that comes to mind when i hear the term uncanny is something that is very mysterious or strange, especially in an unsettling way. Freud refers to the "The Uncanny" as in the class of frightening things that lead us back to what is known and familiar. The first thing that immediately came to mind was the movie Legion. Before going further into details about the movie, let's touch on angels and God first. Usually we are use to seeing God as a forgiving and loving God. Also, when we think of Angels we think of holy beings that are God's messengers and our righteous guidance. But, in the movie we see the complete opposite! We God as a vengeful bring that is fed up with human civilization due to their constant sinning. He wants to strike them with death and plagues leaving an end to mankind. In the film Legion, we see Angels as God's destroyers. God sends his Legions to earth to kill mankind's last hope which is the baby. I've never heard of such thing nor seen this before watching the movie. It was kind of frightening to imagine even if this was slightly possible to happen. The movie gives us an uncanny perspective of God and his wrath.
