I really enjoyed AJ’s presentation on the Walking
Dead, and how he incorporated religion in a way that I never thought of. I’m not familiar with the Walking Dead Tv
show, but it is interesting to see how something simply as a TV Show could
prepare us for the unexpected events that occur in our everyday lives. Some
people spend their lives watching shows like this without even realizing the
religion aspect, and I think it’s important to note how the underlying meaning
is there in plain sight, we must take time out to comprehend and notice it.
My first reaction was that this show was a horror
show, and about zombies eating humans, so I never bothered to tune in to the
hype that people are involved with watching this show. I’m not a huge fan of
horror shows or of zombies, but this presentation really got me thinking maybe
I should binge-watch this show when I get the chance.
One thing I notice about this presentation was the
message of survival. AJ notes in his presentation that this show has prepared
him for the unthinkable, and that really hit me because no one knows when
things will happen, so I think it is helpful that this show implies what to do
and how to survive amid chaos. For me, I get it because life has a way to throw
a curveball, and many people are stuck between what to do, and what not to do,
which allows people to not only test their faith, but also test their ability
to prevail in tough times.
Life is difficult, but people are forced to make tough
decisions every day, and I can relate to the fact that it is a struggle to
remain faithful in your religion or your God when all you want is answers to
why this is happening, or why am I going through this trial. Some give up, and
others continue to fight in the face of adversity, and like this show, I think
religion is a constant test that we, as humans must continue to survive and
pass.
For me, religion has been a big part of my life, so
this presentation spoke volumes to me because in some ways, I have been in
situations where I felt like I was losing my faith, and I would do things that
were out of character for me, and this show illustrates how people react when
that fear of the unknown takes over.
I really like the overall message of this show is not
just about survival, but about how to face the unknown head on while keeping
your faith intact to who you are as a person. Times are hard, but throwing in
the towel is not the solution, or the answers to the problems. I feel like with
this show and the presentation, the purpose is to show how religion demands a
trial and error process, meaning that if we fail, we must continue to try
again.
Overall, I think this presentation was amazing and
really impact me because even though I haven’t watched this show, I get the underlie message of surviving life’s unexpected tests and prevailing at all
costs. It’s not about the hard times we endure, but it’s about how we handle
those hard times that matters the most.
When our faith tends to waver, I think it is important to take a step
back and think rationally which will lead us to act in a way that not only
forces us to trust our faith but gives us the strength and courage to be a
testimony to others in similar situations.
